1. 01

   Octopuses have three hearts and blue blood.

   Two pump blood to the gills. One pumps to the body. And copper-based blood runs blue, not red.

   Sharks existed before trees.

   Sharks have been in the ocean for 450 million years. Trees are only 390 million. Sharks predate Saturn's rings.

   Jellyfish have no brain, no heart, no blood, no bones.

   They're 95% water. They've been doing this for 500 million years. Most animals are, by every metric, less.

   Starfish eat with their stomach outside their body.

   They extrude their stomach, wrap it around prey, digest externally, then retract. Casually.

   Sea urchins chew rock with five teeth.

   Aristotle described the jaw in 350 BC. We still call it "Aristotle's Lantern." It grinds through stone.

   Stingrays can detect your heartbeat.

   Electroreceptors called ampullae of Lorenzini sense the electric field of every heartbeat around them.

   Sea anemones are predators that look like flowers.

   Those "petals" are stinging tentacles. They paralyze fish with neurotoxins and drag them in.
